XFC 15: Tribute Preliminary Card Preview

The Muay Thai Champion Competes Friday Night

Since coming to HDNet earlier this year, the Xtreme Fighting Championships promotion has quickly become the talk of the MMA community. The Florida based promotion will be broadcasting ten full fights on HDNet, which leaves a small preliminary card. With only two fights on the preliminary card, only the best young fighters from the Florida area will be in action.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Phil Daru (0-0-0) will do battle with Socrates Pierre (1-1-0). Phil Daru will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he has fought multiple times on the amateur circuit. Socrates Pierre is the more experienced fighter of the two in this fight, but he has not competed in over a year. This fight will be an interesting one to say the least, but it will be Phil Daru starting off his professional career undefeated.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division fight as Johnny Cardona (1-1-0) takes on Bruce Lutchmedial (0-0-0). Johnny Cardona is currently winless in the XFC promotion, having lost to Nate Jolly by TKO at XFC in 2009. Bruce Lutchmedial will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he is a 2007 ISKA Muay Thai Champion. This fight is one to look forward to for the muay thai community and it will be Bruce Lutchmedial getting the victory.

Who’s To Blame For John Morrison Exiting The WWE…

The Powder Keg?

In this first of hopefully many editions of “Who’s To Blame”, I take a look at four people who are to blame for John Morrison exiting the WWE. Same names people may recognize and some may come out of left field, but they all played a part in John Morrison exiting the promotion.

1. The Miz

John Morrison’s first big break in the WWE came as a tag team with Joey Mercury and Melina known as MNM, they quickly captured the WWE Tag Team Titles. John Morrison would then start to get noticed even more when he joined up with an MTV reality star known as The Miz. This duo would go onto win the WWE Tag Team Titles themselves, then the break up happened and it all went south. John Morrison was the star early after the break up, winning championships and having fantastic matches against everybody put in front of him. Then something happened, The Miz hit his groove and as his star started to rise…John Morrison’s started to fall. The Miz would go onto captured the WWE Championship by defeating Randy Orton and John Morrison would feud with him. In the end, The Miz would win the feud and John Morrison was out of the title picture for the remainder of his WWE run.

2. Trish Stratus

It all took one simple comment from John Morrison and a few signs of bad body language around Trish Stratus this past year at Wrestlemania to put another nail in the coffin. In a weird and convoluted backstage piece of turmoil, John Morrison gave the multi-time WWE Women’s Champion the cold shoulder, which upset the higher ups in the WWE. Rumors spread throughout the wrestling world that John Morrison’s then girlfriend Melina got in his ear and convinced him to not cooperate with Trish Stratus. At the end of it all, neither John Morrison nor Trish Stratus got the rub at the biggest event of the year as MTV reality star Snooki would pin Michelle McCool to win the match.

3. Vince McMahon

It has been long rumored that Vince McMahon likes an aura of toughness to his main event talent, but he never viewed John Morrison as that kind of tough guy. This issue was what must likely kept John Morrison out of the main event picture, despite the excellent performances he was putting on inside the wrestling ring. Every single time John Morrison pulled off an amazing accomplishment in the ring, Vince McMahon viewed it as a flashy move from his un-tough star. When it is all said and done, flashy moves may make the fans go crazy, but it never truly impressed the boss.

4. Melina

There is no doubt that the on again/off again romantic relationship between John Morrison and former WWE Diva Melina lead to a lot of issues behind the scenes. Once again, many people felt that it was Melina who got in John Morrison’s ear to start the whole fiasco with Trish Stratus. Another example came after Melina was released from the WWE, because she still showed up with John Morrison at the WWE house shows the following weekend…a major breach of locker room etiquette. The drama even continues to this very day as the former WWE Diva has taking to the social network to comment on all things John Morrison. Every volatile situation has a powder keg that will eventually go off and Melina could have been the powder keg to get John Morrison out of the WWE for good.

Chris Leben Fails Drug Test…Suspended For A Year

Suspended For A Year

UFC 138 headliner Chris Leben has been suspended by the Ultimate Fighting Championships for failing a post-fight drug test. UFC 138 took place in Birmingham, England and the UFC tested the fighters themselves due to the lack of athletic commissions in the country.

Chris Leben failed the test because he tested positive for oxycodone and oxymorphone, both of which are prescription painkillers. At UFC 138, Chris Leben lost to Mark Munoz in the main event after the UFC Ultimate Fighter alumni could not continue to fight.

Chris Leben issued the following statement…

“I would like to make it known that I fully accept this suspension and apologize for embarrassing the UFC, my friends and family, and sport of mixed martial arts,” Leben stated. “I’m learning that I’m my own worst enemy sometimes. I can’t succeed in the octagon or in life behaving this way. I’ve got to make some real changes over the next year, and I’m going to focus on getting my life and career back on track. Again, I’m sorry to the UFC and fans that’ve supported me since my days on ‘The Ultimate Fighter.'”

UFC President Dana White issued the following statement…

“I like Chris, and I want him to do well, but based on his actions, he’s been suspended for one year,” White stated. “If he needs professional help, we are going to be there for him. We want to see him succeed not only in the octagon but in his personal life.”

Assuming the suspension went into effect this month, Chris Leben will not be allowed to compete until November 2012.

Bellator 59 Televised Card Preview

The UFC Veteran Comes Out Of Retirement

It all comes to an end this Saturday Night as the Bellator season five finale takes place with two separate tournament finals. Those two separate tournament finals will be taking place in both the heavyweight and bantamweight divisions respectively. Also, UFC veteran Kurt Pellegrino comes out of retirement and yet another UFC veteran is in action Saturday Night.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division affair as Marcin Held (11-2-0) stands across the cage from Phillipe “The Filipino Assassin” Nover (5-3-1). Marcin Held competed in the Bellator season four lightweight tournament, losing to Michael Chandler in the opening round. Phillipe Nover is a UFC veteran who made it to the finals of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8 before losing to Efrain Escudero. This is going to be the biggest fight of Marcin Held’s career and he will be earning that big victory over the UFC veteran.

Up next is another lightweight division fight as Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (9-2-0) goes up against Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino (16-6-0). Patricky Freire made it to the finals of the Bellator season four lightweight tournament before losing to Michael Chandler. Kurt Pellegrino is coming off of a short self-imposed retirement, which came after he was cut by the UFC in March 2011. This fight could determine who enters a future Bellator tournament and that fighter will be Patricky Freire.

The co-main event is a BFC Bantamweight Tournament Finals fight as Eduardo “Dudu” Dantas (12-2-0) faces Alexis “The Exorcist” Vila (11-0-0). Eduardo Dantas got his spot in the tournament finals by defeating both Wilson Reis and Ed West. Alexis Vila punched his ticket to the tournament finals with wins over the duo of Joe Warren and Marcos Galvao. This fight is all about youth versus experience, but it will be the experience in Alexis Vila winning the finals.

Headlining this card is a BFC Heavyweight Tournament Finals fight as Eric “The American Soldier” Prindle (9-1-0) takes on Thiago “Big Monster” Santos (10-1-0). Eric Prindle found his way into the finals of the tournament by achieving victories over Abe Wagner and Ron Sparks. Thiago Santos finds himself in the season five finals by getting victories over both Josh Burns and Neil Grove. This fight is practically guaranteed to be an epic clash, but it will be Thiago Santos getting the duke.

Bellator 59 Preliminary Card Preview

Karl Amoussou Competes At Bellator 59

All good things must come to an end and this Saturday Night, the fifth season of Bellator will be coming to an end with an explosive line up. That explosive line up begins on Spike.com, which will be airing all five preliminary card fights live before the MTV2 broadcast. That portion of the card recently underwent a few changes, but the card will be featuring the top rated Karl Amoussou.

Kicking off the card is a middleweight division contest as Gregory Milliard (1-2-0) does battle with Brandon Sailing (6-4-0). Gregory Milliard not only has a subpar record currently as a fighter, but he also has not competed in well over two years. Brandon Saling will be entering this fight riding a three fight winning streak, plus this will be his third fight in two months. This fight looks like it was set up for a Brandon Saling victory and that is exactly what will be happening here.

We now move to the featherweight division for the next battle as Scott “The Animal” Heckman (8-3-0) competes against Brylan Van Artsdalen (5-2-0). Scott Heckman is currently winless in Bellator competition, having lost to Alexandre Bezzera at Bellator 49. Brylan Van Artsdalen is also winless in his current Bellator campaign, losing to Joel Roberts at Bellator 49. This fight could determine who may still have a future in Bellator and that fighter is going to be Brylan Van Arsdale.

The welterweight division will be highlighted next as Lucas Pimenta Borges (4-0-0) stands across the cage from Doug “Flash” Gordon (11-10-0). Lucas Pimenta Borges is an undefeated fighter who will be competing for the third time in just two months. Doug Gordon has only won one of four fights heading into Saturday Night, last defeating Jesus Martinez in December 2010. This fight is going to be the biggest test of Lucas Pimenta Borges young MMA career, but it will be a test that he passes.

We return to the middleweight division for the next contest as Levon “Da Maynman” Maynard (11-8-0) faces Chris “Red“Line” Wing (3-1-0). Levon Maynard is currently winless in Bellator competition, losing to both Rick Hawn and Giedrius Karavackas. Chris Wing is off to an impressive start in his young MMA career, with two victories coming in the Ring Of Combat promotion. This battle could be to avoid the pink slip for Levon Maynard, but he will be getting one as Chris Wing gets the victory.

Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division clash as Karl “Psycho” Amoussou (12-4-2) faces Jesus “Chavo” Martinez (6-1-0). Karl Amoussou is a well-traveled MMA veteran who made his Bellator debut at Bellator 45, losing to Sam Alvey. Jesus Martinez has only fought once thus far in 2011, defeating Chris Wing by knockout at Matrix Fights IV. The huge experience edge for Karl Amoussou will be carrying him to victory when this fight is put in the record books.
